I’ve been seeing DIY tassel garland everywhere lately, and with my own baby shower coming up in a few months, I really wanted to learn how to make these myself.
Turns out, this garland is super easy to make and doesn’t require a lot of supplies. And the best part is, since the main supply is tissue paper, you can customize the colors to perfectly match your party!
How to make DIY tassel garland:
Supplies:
- Hot glue gun + glue
- Twine
- Scissors
- Tissue paper
Directions:
Step 1: Take one piece of tissue paper, (I found that tissue paper with a slightly waxy coating works best–otherwise it tears too easily) lay it completely flat, and smooth out any wrinkles as best as possible. Then, fold in half once across the width.
Step 2: Fold in half again, this time, lengthwise. Then, make a third fold—again, lengthwise.
Step 3: Leaving about an inch and a half at the top of the folded tissue paper (the top is the end with all the folds), take a razor (or scissors) and a ruler, and make thin slices all the way to the end of the folded tissue paper. (Make sure you’re cutting through all the sheets of paper so you don’t have to re-cut the same line.)
Step 4: Once you’ve made your slices, unfold the paper once and make another slice leaving an inch and a half at the top in the middle of the fold.
Step 5: Unfold the paper again and slice all the way down the middle fold, creating 2 separate pieces of tissue paper.
Step 6: Unfold one of the pieces of tissue paper you just cut and lay it flat. Make sure to carefully untangle any rogue tassels. Starting at the bottom, begin rolling up the paper from the middle.
Step 7: Once completely rolled, twist the middle area tightly, gently untangling tassels as you go. You should have about 2 and a half inches tightly rolled for the next step.
Step 8: Make a loop against the direction you were twisting in and keep twisting around itself for about half an inch.
Step 9: Place a small dab of hot glue on the twisted part to make sure it stays.
Step 10: Repeat steps 1-9 until you’ve created the desired amount of tassels.
Step 11: String them onto your twine and find a great spot to display your craftiness!
